EducationUSA Advising Center

EducationUSA is a network of hundreds of advising centers in 170 countries, where millions of international students each year find accurate, comprehensive, and current information about how to apply to accredited U.S. colleges and universities. The EducationUSA network is supported by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA).
The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) fosters mutual understanding between the United States and other countries by promoting personal, professional, and institutional ties between private citizens and organizations in the United States and abroad, as well as by presenting U.S. history, society, art and culture in all of its diversity to overseas audiences.

EducationUSA Regional Program

To develop regions of Azerbaijan and assist regional students in accessing U.S. higher education opportunities through the EducationUSA network, the American Councils for International Education, with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Baku, implements a regional development program. The USG alumni and English Language Teachers in Astara, Bilasuvar, Ganja, Mingachevir, Khachmaz, Sheki and Zagatala are hired and trained to work as the Regional EducationUSA Advisers throughout 9 months. Regional Advisers will manage weekly Conversation Clubs, U.S. Cultural Activities seasonally, and bi-weekly Discussion/Reading Clubs.

They also manage the College Prep Club, a cohort group-advising program that assists high school and undergraduate students who want to be strong applicants for competitive colleges in the U.S. The CPC members participate in the EducationUSA seminars on various topics related to U.S. education and webinars led by U.S. alums. These activities will help ensure that students prepare themselves both academically and socially for studying in the U.S. and work to determine which schools and programs are the best fit for their interests. The American Interns, US-educated Azerbaijanis, and Fulbright Teaching Assistants are involved in the program and teach different regional classes for regional students.

Additionally, CPC students attend the Learning Hub sessions to introduce regional students to various working fields. Professionals of different fields (i.e., Entrepreneurship, Health Care Management, Psychology, Agriculture) meet with the CPC students to talk about their profession and the importance of having that field in Azerbaijan. This program will introduce students to different work areas for more options when choosing the right career to study in the USA.

Finally, regions organize Free Club sessions offered to students not qualified for the CPC group. The Free Club Leader is chosen from active CCC students, CPC graduates, USG alum volunteers and VFSF interns to help regional students develop language skills and prepare them as strong applicants for the CPC. The main idea of these clubs is to provide everyone, without age or language limitation, with access to English language and conversation clubs and help them familiarize themselves with American culture. This will be a chance for those who do not meet CPC requirements to develop their language skills and become competitive applicants for the upcoming academic year.
